Greer & Hanson
April 30 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 Admission, $5 with current student ID. Door opens 15 minutes before music begins.
This will be a first meeting for Sarah M. Greer and Nathan Hanson, although they’ve traveled the same orbit for quite some time. Expect exploration, investigation, serendipity, and accord. Oh and surprise, expect surprise too.
Composer and saxophonist Nathan Hanson has performed in venues from concert halls to prisons, churches to train stations, debutante balls to Soviet fallout shelters in places ranging from St. Paul to Slovenia; Paris to Pittsburgh; Milano to Milwaukee; and Rome (both Italy and Georgia). His compositions have been featured on radio, television and film in the United States and Europe. He is a graduate of Newberry College, and the University of South Carolina.
Hailed as an “extraordinary performer with a beautiful tone and concept” (Cadence Magazine), Mr. Hanson makes his home in St. Paul, MN since 2006 following a residency in New York from 1998 – 2006. His playing has been called “seductively pithy” (Signal to Noise), “unexpectedly tasteful and dignified” (Improjazz) and “immediately accessible without sacrificing musical smarts” (Destination: OUT) with “tinges of Jan Garbarek and Albert Ayler” (Exclaim!).
Jazz central curator Sarah M. Greer is a Minneapolis-based vocalist, recording artist and composer known for her song inventions, scat singing and improvising. Praised by other musicians for her sense of time and vocal dexterity, audiences appreciate Sarah’s “amazing” voice, infectious humor, and passion for singing.
Sarah performs regularly with numerous Twin Cities artists and musicians, a cappella ensemble the Give Get Sistet,, and guests with a variety of players in other projects and collaborations throughout Minnesota and around the world. She released her album of original jazz music “What the Music Says Do” in 2018.
