Court’s In Session
March 26 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 Admission, $5 with current student ID. Door opens 15 minutes before music begins.
Court’s In Session will stir your emotions and relax your mind by capturing the heart of the classic American Songbook played their way, with a dash of blues and a ton of soul.
Court’s In Session was born as a way to honor three senior members of Beasley’s Big Band (BBB). Ruben Haugen (saxophone/clarinet), Roger Bartlett (trombone and upright bass), and Mel Carter Sr (trumpet) served as mentors and teachers to anyone willing to be under their tutelage. They lived the music “the first time around” and taught the “real” way this music should be played– from the heart, and for the love of the large body of work known as the American Songbook; also referred to as Jazz Standards.
Court’s In Session provided a forum for these music mentors to continue creating music after retiring from the rigors of playing with Beasley’s Big Band. Throughout the years, as each mentor has passed away, Rich Goldman, John Etzell, and Ryan Lodgaard have stepped to help keep the music and legacy alive.
Courtney Burton – Vocals
Eric Edwalds – Piano
John Etzell – Upright bass
Rich Goldman – Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute
Ryan Lodgaard – Drums
