This band is a collaborative effort of five stellar musicians who are accomplished players and composers. The music will reflect the jazz lineage of Coltrane, Monk and Ellington as well as take you on a journey through alternate musical destinations.
This will be a great evening of music not to be missed!
Violinist Ernest Bisong has opened concerts for such musicians as Mike Stern, Marcus Johnson, Marsha Ambrosius, and Anita Baker. In July 2013, he became the first Nigerian to obtain Performance Diploma certification from the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London with a distinction. In the maiden edition of Venture Career Journal Nigeria released in 2013, he was referred to as “arguably Africa’s foremost contemporary violinist.” His debut recording with Nigerian Rapper IBK a.k.a. “Spaceshipoi” titled “Bumble Bee” remained on the No 1 spot on the charts of the Detroit-based “Angels of Melody” radio show for an entire month. He currently lives in St. Paul MN and performs regularly in and around the Twin Cites Metro Area as The Ernest Bisong Group.
Saxophonist Pete Whitman has performed with such distinguished jazz artists such as Jack McDuff, Curtis Fuller, Dave Stryker and the Woody Herman Orchestra. He also performs with the eclectic fusion ensemble Mississippi and frequently performs with his own quartet in the area. Whitman has recorded extensively as a sideman and has three CD’s under his name: Departure Point (Igmod Records), The Sound of Water (Artegra), and Where’s When (Artegra). Two of his most recent recording projects include Mississippi (Shifting Paradigm Records) and Changes We Can Believe In by the Pete Whitman/Chris Olson Quintet (Bandcamp).
Jordan Anderson is an exceptional pianist from Minneapolis, MN. His musicality, dynamic range, outstanding swing feel, and commitment to jazz history has distinguished him as an irresistibly good musician. He is now a JazzStudies major at University of Michigan, currently studying with Andy Milne. Many audience members have reportedly been caught leaving a Jordan Anderson performance muttering to themselves “That dude can play…”
Bassist Jeff Bailey has performed in a wide variety of musical settings as a musician, composer, and producer. He has performed with world-renowned jazz artists Captain McDuff, Craig Taborn, James Carter, Nachito Herrera, Eric Gravat, Rodney Jones, Dave King, Brian Lynch, Wessel Anderson, Peruvian guitar master Andrés Prado, and James Moody. Never one to be pigeonholed into one style, Jeff has also toured and performed with Keri Noble, Joey McIntyre (NKOTB), Tommy Barbarella (Prince), Charles Lazarus (Minnesota Orchestra), Reverend Billy Steele, Jennifer Kimball, Heather Headley, and Charley Drayton. Jeff has also received accolades for producing a Minnesota Music Award-winning CD for Alicia Wiley, receiving a Best of the Twin Cities Award as a founding member of Moveable Feast, and a Minnesota Music Award nomination for best Bass Player of the Year.
Drummer Ben Ehrlich is heavily influenced by the music of Brian Blade, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane, as well as Minnesota natives Dave King (The Bad Plus), and Eric Gravatt (Weather Report). He has gained extensive performance experience with a wide variety of artists, such as national act Ian Kimmel and the Heard, the Texas Blues Crew, Sound Skirmish, and the Ben Ehrlich Trio and Quintet. Ben has performed at the Dakota Jazz Club, the Varsity Theater, the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival.
