Ebb N’ Flow—a group of Twin Cities-based, Black improvisational musicians—will provide a live, improvised soundtrack and lyrical dialogue for two films made by Twin Cities filmmakers: E.G. Bailey’s “New Neighbors” and Ananya Dance Theatre’s “Shaatranga.”
New Neighbors by E.G. Bailey
How far will a Mother go to protect her children? A 2017 Sundance Official Selection, New Neighbors is a story about a mother and her two sons who move to a new neighborhood, and because of all the killings and assaults on Black lives she is determined to keep her family safe. She takes to the neighborhood with kids in tow.
A reimagining of internationally toured Shaatranga:Women Weaving Worlds by Ananya Dance Theatre
“Shaatranga” (seven colors) asks the question, “How do we show up for each other?” and suggests that global women who engage in world-making are refusing to be seen in only blue/indigo – the pain, sorrow, and defeat that has historically framed them. Instead, they share their multifaceted stories that express not only their pain, but their joys, laughter, and the work they do, that goes largely unrecognized, to create positive force in their communities and the world.
Ebb N Flow is a collective of Twin Cities-based improvisational musicians presented by Drea Reynolds and Douglas Kearney
