32nd Street Jazz

March 27 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$10 admission. Doors open 30 minutes before music starts.

32nd Street Jazz brings together a unique lineup — two saxes, electric bass and drums — and an eclectic mix of ’60s hard bop and ’70s funk-fusion, plus unexpected mashups of classic jazz, rock and showtunes, to entertain listeners with a sound that is steeped in jazz while also appealing to a non-jazz audience.

Formed in late 2017 after meeting in a South Minneapolis community band, 32nd Street Jazz began appearing regularly at the Acadia Pub in Minneapolis the following summer, along with a handful of other local appearances. The band’s self-titled debut album was released in June 2019, with several tracks receiving significant airplay on Jazz 88. Starting from classic ’60s hard bop and post-bop — think Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver, or the second great Miles Davis quintet — plus a bit of ’70s funk-fusion, their style has taken shape with an album’s worth of originals, as well as signature mashups of classic jazz standards with popular rock, funk and show tunes.

Michael Wilson: saxes and flute
Mona Wong: saxes
Scott Anderson: electric bass
Brandon Sisneroz: drums
