JAZZERDOUS MATERIAL features drummer Byron Blanchard-Johnson, guitarist Mike Wolter, and bassist Eric Graham. The trio plays original compositions which explore a variety of improvisational concepts and draw from a broad spectrum of music trends, styles, and traditions.
Byron Johnson-Blanchard is a drummer, composer, bandleader, and music educator based out of the Twin Cites. Since graduating from McNally Smith College of Music in 2008, Byron has performed with renown Twin Cites musical acts such as High & Mighty, Tom Hunter, The Dap Squad, Sam Kuusisto, Vintage Raggs, Zacc Harris, Mill City Hot Club, and Papa John Kolstad. He is currently a member of Silverback Trio and BZB Trio. Byron also leads and composes for Amethyst 3 featuring Mike Wolter and Josh Granowski, and the Byron Johnson-Blanchard Trio featuring Brad Holden and Keith Yanes.
Since moving to the Twin Cities in 2016, guitarist Mike Wolter has established himself as an in-demand leader and sideman on the jazz and improvised music scene. He has collaborated with many of the area’s finest musicians, including Cody McKinney, Cory Healey, Brandon Wozniak, Jay Epstein, Phil Hey, JC Sanford, Javier Santiago, Joan Hutton, Pete Hennig, Josh Granowski, Nathan Hanson, Aaron Hedenstrom, Chris Bates, Omar Abdulkarim, Sarah Greer, Graydon Peterson, Matt Peterson, Tom Lewis, Chris Olsen, and others.
Eric Graham holds a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the Peabody Conservatory and is a full-time music professor at Century College where he teaches courses in world music, popular music, and jazz. He has performed with a broad spectrum of local, regional, and national artists including Mike Stern, Donny McCaslin, Matt Wilson, Bernard Purdie, and Ernie Watts. A classically-trained composer, he won a ASCAP Raymond Hubbell Award, and his work C’Trane B’Tok was programmed by the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He was raised in Barrow, Alaska — an Eskimo village 400 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
