Matthew E Trice is a local saxophonist, and composer. Originally from Belmar, New Jersey. Trice moved to Minnesota to earn a degree at McNally Smith College of Music. Trice plays regularly with Steve Hirsh, Dick Studer, and Donald Washington as apart of Le Voyage. Trice also plays regularly with Drew Stinson, Kaviesh Kaviraj, and Kenny Watson forming the base of the Ice Cream Somedays Collective. You can catch him and Ice Cream Somedays hosting the Sunday afternoon Jam, every Sunday from 6-9 at Jazz Central Studios.
As an effort to broaden Jazz Central Studio’s inclusion, Trice encourages more women and people of color to participate in the Jam.
Kavyesh Kaviraj is a pianist, composer and arranger from India. A prominent musician in India & Oman, he has found acclaim in the US ever since he moved to Minneapolis in 2016. Kavyesh graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies. He is known for his versatility and experience working in various different genres although he considers himself primarily a jazz pianist. Kavyesh is a member of the jazz fusion quintet
Mississippi and has been associated with national and local acts like Justin Robinson (Roy Hargrove), Roosevelt Collier, Jay Young and the Lyric Factory, Yolande Bruce, Debbie Duncan, Bruce Henry, Nooky Jones, the Kevin Washington Quintet, Jamecia Bennett, Desdamona, Toki Wright among several others.
Steve Hirsh plays improvised music on the drums. He leads the ensemble Le Voyage, with Donald Washington, Matt Trice and Dick Studer. Besides his colleagues in Le Voyage, he has had the good fortune to play with amazing improvisers and humans Babatunde Lea, Douglas R. Ewart, J. Otis Powell !?, Faye Washington, Pat O’Keefe, Mankwe Ndosi and Jayanthi Kyle. He has an upcoming solo drumset performance as part of the April New Ruckus composer night, and he hopes that he and the audience emerge from the experience unscathed. Steve endorses Canopus drums.
