Brian Handeland Quintet

$10 general admission, $5 for students with ID & musicians with instruments. Doors open 15 minutes before music starts.
This installment of the quintet will feature trumpeter Mike Gillespie, who is an accomplished musician and is currently teaching music in Hong Kong. We will be playing a mix of jazz standards from the 1940s-1960s, by composers such as Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, Dexter Gordon and more.

Brian Handeland is a saxophonist/woodwind doubler and a native of Minneapolis. Brian studied saxophone/woodwinds and jazz at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of North Texas, where he played and recorded with a number of ensembles including the UWEC Jazz Ensemble 1, the UWEC Symphony Orchestra, the UNT Latin Jazz Ensemble, and the prestigious UNT 1 O’Clock Lab Band. After UNT, Brian was employed as a touring pit orchestra musician with NETworks Presentations, where he played flute/clarinet/various saxophones on the 2016 International tour of Shrek The Musical, as well as on North American tours of the musicals Elf and Flashdance. Brian also played saxophones and woodwinds with pianist Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra on her 2016 Holiday Tour.

Brian currently works as a freelance musician and woodwind instructor in the Twin Cities, and can be seen performing with a variety of bands around the Twin Cities including the JazzMN Orchestra, the Twin Cities Latin Jazz Orchestra, Fuzzy Math, The Soul Shack, The Brass Barn Polka Band, and Machinery Hill. He also freelances as a theater musician, having played in pit orchestras at the Orpheum Theater, Chanhassen Dinner Theater, Children’s Theater Company, and Theater Latte Da.

About the Monday Featured Artist:
JCS invites a local jazz masters to play and direct new collaborations.

This performance is followed by a traditional jam session hosted by the featured artist. Novice and experienced, are invited to play and hone their skills.
