The Jazz Kittens

The Jazz Kittens will be playing everything from Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk tunes to musical numbers from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. The Leader of the Jazz Kittens is Chicago based pianist Joseph Clifton. Joseph has studied under Chris White and Bobby Broom at North Park University where he earned a BA in Jazz Piano Performance. His playing is influenced by Wynton Kelly, Oscar Peterson, Ben Paterson, Bud Powell, Red Garland and Ray Charles.
The Drummer, Josh Hooper, and Bassist, Spencer Becker, are local Twin Cities musicians.
Josh currently plays snare drum for the Macalister Scottish Pipe band and has played in multiple rock bands. Joseph and Josh played in a blues band together until the band broke up over 5 years ago. Tonight will be the first show that they have played together since the breakup.
The Jazz Kittens bassist, Spencer Becker, has played in many ensembles ranging from classical to bluegrass. Currently he is studying under the instruction of Jeff Castleman. His influences are Ray Brown, Neils Henning, Orsted Petterson, and Scott Lafaro.

This performance is followed by a traditional jam session hosted by the featured artist. Novice and experienced, are invited to play and hone their skills.
