Sheridan Zuther with Sheila Steverson
March 1 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 admission at the door. $5 with valid student ID. Doors open 15 minutes before music starts.
Sheridan Zuther (vocalist) and Sheila Steverson (piano) met in college at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Conservatory of Music and formed a bond over a love of music. Their friendship solidified when Sheridan was Sheila’s “big sister” in Sigma Alpha Iota, the international music fraternity for women. They’ve kept in touch after all these years, both admiring each other’s talents and finding ways to make music together each time they see one another. Together, they’ve recorded a Christmas album and played numerous gigs whenever Sheridan would visit San Diego. Fresh from the California coast, Sheila visits Minnesota for the first time (braving the winter!) and is excited to join her “sister” for a night playing favorite songs of their own arrangements, from Jobim to The Doors, from Shirley Bassey to little-known Austin, TX composer Toni Price. Don’t miss this musical, story-telling journey spanning years spent honing our talents and miles of musical friendship!!
Sheridan Zuther returned to the Twin Cities to resume her solo singing career after seven years of touring throughout the U.S. and Canada performing with symphony orchestras and big bands as a member of the nationally acclaimed vocal quintet Five By Design, in conjunction with teaching vocal clinics and master classes in high schools and universities throughout the country. Sheridan is an opera trained singer who sings a wide range of genres from jazz, R&B, pop, country & gospel. She has starred in musical theatre productions at the Ordway, The Guthrie, Park Square Theater, Minneapolis Musical Theater, Bloomington Civic Theater and with the Minnesota Orchestra as well as serving as producer and musical director of her own shows. As an alumni of the Cabaret Conference at Yale University, she is a founding member of the Twin Cities Cabaret Artists Network, promoting public awareness and advancement of cabaret performance in the Twin Cities community. She also teaches voice and beginning piano at her home studio and Interact Center for Visual and Performing Arts in St. Paul. www.SherSings.com
The piano is Sheila Steverson’s first “language” of choice. Magical, warm and mesmerizing are just a few of the words used to describe Ms. Steverson’s artful play on piano. Whether she is creating music in the moment, or recreating your favorite tune her sound will captivate your attention quickly. Born into a multi-lingual home, her confession of not remembering a moment when she didn’t play the piano adds to the amazement of her talent. Motown, R&B and Soul served to influence her musical “wiring” resulting in eclectic chord progressions that her audience often refer to as “emotional, passionate and rich.” Known for her five most used words “Can you hum it for me?”, Sheila’s hands have a way of connecting notes seamlessly and without effort for your favorite melody while her iconic bass and luscious harmonic tones provide the perfect foundation thousands of melodies she re-creates at your request. Her ability to compose and arrange on the spot truly sets her apart from her peers. Her talent to play any song in any key, to recreate and express flawlessly through her fingers has landed her the spotlight at many public and private events, jazz festivals, piano venues as well as keyboard player for up-and-coming vocal artists.
Currently Ms. Steverson is working a music project – recreating music from the 80s and 90s with her own jazz-fusing-R&B-pop style to present in Summer 2018. You will walk away with a priceless memory of the amazing music she creates and understand why her fingers, ARE truly a vessel to her soul.
