Beth Yashaya with Kavyesh Kaviraj

This Thursday’s Vocal Night will feature singer Beth Yeshaya and pianist and arranger, Kavyesh Kaviraj. Their set list includes a mix of jazz vocalese, standards, gospel, show, and popular tunesBeth released her debut jazz album, “Far Cry, Live at Studio M” in 2001. The CD was recorded at Minnesota Public Radio’s Studio “M” in front of a live audience.

Beth Yeshaya studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and has played at The Dakota, The Artist’s Quarter and The Fine Line Music Cafe. Beth was featured fronting the Adi Yeshaya Big Band.  She has been a guest vocal coach for the Jazz and Vocal Intensive Camps at Coast Music Conservatory in Los Angeles, as well as a session vocalist for radio and television commercials. She is often hired as a lyricist and songwriter by organizations, such as the World Food Prize, ASSE as well as other vocalists on their projects.

Beth was featured on six Compass Records releases (for Target stores) including “Songs Of Peace”, which featured her original song, “I Need A Miracle.” She was also featured on pianist, Mary Beth Carlson’s CD, “Wrapped In Love”, singing the title track.

More recently, Beth was a guest soloist in McNally Smith College of Music’s “Live At Five” concert series, featuring composer, Adi Yeshaya. She is currently recording her second album, “Killer Ballads”, to be released in 2016.

Kavyesh Kaviraj is a pianist, composer and arranger from India. Kavyesh has found acclaim in the US ever since he moved to Minneapolis in 2016.  He is known for his versatility and experience working in various different genres although primarily a jazz pianist.  Kavyesh is a member of the jazz fusion quintet Mississippi and has been associated with national and local acts like Justin Robinson (Roy Hargrove), Roosevelt Collier, Jay Young and the Lyric Factory, Yolande Bruce, Debbie Duncan, Bruce Henry, Nooky Jones, the Kevin Washington Quintet, Jamecia Bennett, Desdamona, Toki Wright among several others. In 2018, he graduated from Columbia College Chicago earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies. Kavyesh is alsp extremely passionate about music education and is an active music educator in the Twin Cities and is a member of the faculty at Walker West Music Academy.

Thursday night features established singers as well as up-and-coming Twin Cities vocalists.
