Vocalist and group facilitator Whitney Bembenek presents an acoustic trio and interactive experience with Ted Godbout and Graydon Peterson. They combine vocals, piano, bass, and hand percussion to support powerful and insightful lyrical messages they want amplified in the world. Using original songs as well as select covers from artists such as Esperanza Spalding, The Wood Brothers, Emily King, Monica McIntyre and more, they curate an empowering musical experience for everyone present.
Audience engagement and participation are central to the performance. Audience members can expect to not only enjoy and be moved by the diverse repertoire, but to have their perspectives expanded and voices heard through various conversation prompts facilitated throughout the evening. This is an interactive event!
Thanks to her ample experience in vocal music as well as restorative communication techniques, Whitney is known for her powerful and connective singing, personal and provocative lyrics, and her ability to “make people feel heard, safe, and connected.” She combines her skills to create unique concerts, communal singing events, and workshops for deeper, more powerful communication.
Whitney has participated in diverse vocal ensembles internationally and in the United States, such as Concentus Women’s Choir (Rochester, NY), Duo Endredo (Dominican Republic) and VocalEssence (Twin Cities, MN). Her vocal styling is often described as soulful, jazzy, and engaging, and she began singing professionally in 2009. She released her first solo EP album “Oh, the Beauty” in December 2017.
Along with her musical endeavors, Whitney holds several rich years of experience studying and facilitating various forms of restorative communication. These include Non-Violent Communication of Marshall Rosenberg, Convergent Facilitation with Miki Kashtan, and Racial Justice Dialoguing with several YWCAs across the United States.
