As always, an open jam session is hosted by Monday’s Featured Artist following the first set. Bring your ax and your fake books (if you need’em). Starting at 10pm JCS invites all comers to get their game on regardless of experience level.

TUESDAY BIG BAND
Bill Simenson Orchestra 8:30-10:30pm

The Bill Simenson Orchestra is a 17 piece big band (5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, guitar, piano, bass, and drums).  The orchestra is available for concert and club performance as well as artistic and educational collaborations.

Trio Explorations with:
Chris Bates – Bass
Nathan Hanson – Saxophones
Pete Hennig – Drums

Nathan, Chris and Pete have all played together in different contexts from Atlantis Quartet to Fantastic Merlins and beyond.
This trio will take those experiences and turn them on their collective heads to find new ways of interacting through rhythm and melody.

JCS vocal night curator Sarah M. Greer began singing and performing in the Twin Cities in 1996 with an a cappella women’s ensemble. In 2003, she encountered vocal improvisation through a workshop with Rhiannon (a member of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra,) and the rest, as they say, is history. Eight months after attending a week-long improv master class in 2006, Sarah quit her her day job in publishing to pursue music full time…more

FRIDAY JAZZ MASTERS
Cannonball Collective 8-10pm

The Cannonball Collective explores the music of the legendary Cannonball Adderley Quintet. This is an opportunity to explore our musical roots as the group interprets Cannonball’s quintet sound as it evolved from early bebop beginnings through the funky soul-inspired sound from later in Cannonball’s career.

OUDYANO is عصام رافع Issam Rafea, oud player and Steven Hobert, eclectic keyboardist and improviser. Rafea, a native of Syria, and Hobert, of Minneapolis MN, join hearts to create music that sensitively peers inward, boldly prays outward; crawling with curiosity, then leaping into clouds. Arabic classical tradition meets American jazz & roots to delight audiences through the world peace enacted by their embrace.

Hosted by Cole Mahlum 4-6pm

Come and enjoy some spontaneous collaboration, hosted by guitarist Cole Mahlum, these jam sessions are focused around the Hammond B3 organ sound. This weekly jam session is open to musicians of all ages and levels of experience.
