This Week’s Concert Line-up at Jazz Central Studios (August 6th – 12th)

Monday Night Featured Artist & Jam Session | 8:30 – 10:00pm

BRIAN HANDELAND QUINTET

Hosted by Mac Santiago
$10 admission. $5 with a student ID or musicians with instruments.


This installment of the quintet will feature trumpeter Mike Gillespie, who is an accomplished musician and is currently teaching music in Hong Kong. We will be playing a mix of jazz standards from the 1940s-1960s, by composers such as Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, Dexter Gordon and more.

JAM SESSION | 10 – 11PM

As always, an open jam session is hosted by Monday’s Featured Artist following the first set. Bring your ax and your fake books (if you need’em). Starting at 10pm JCS invites all comers to get their game on regardless of experience level.

BILL SIMENSON ORCHESTRA

The Bill Simenson Orchestra is a 17 piece big band (5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, guitar, piano, bass, and drums).  The orchestra is available for concert and club performance as well as artistic and educational collaborations.

CHRIS BATES PRESENTS: ROSE LEWIS & FRIENDS

Rose Brzezinski Lewis, graduate of Lawrence University’s Conservatory of Music and member of the Downbeat awarding winning Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Fred Sturm, performed with such guest artists as Bobby McFerrin, Diane Reeves, Clark Terry, and Dizzy Gillespie. She studied jazz composition and arranging with Fred Sturm, orchestration with Howard Niblock, and later, counterpoint with Chris Granias at the MacPhail Center for Music.

SongSister is Dorothy Doring, Connie Dussl and Vicky Mountain – a sassy, swinging vocal trio who present entertaining shows with great songs and stories. They will share a sample from several of their cabaret shows including songs from their “Gettin’ Sentimental” show as well as their “Golden Ladies” show presenting well-loved standards, exciting duets, trios and solos done with an engaging, fun and humorous look at Life.
