About the Event

Brazilian jazz piano player and composer Adolfo Mendonça and his trio will be performing with jazz saxophonist and composer Remy Le Boeuf. The quartet will be playing a set of original music.

Remy Le Boeuf is a four-time Grammy-nominated composer and saxophonist whose music is rooted

in jazz and overlaps into contemporary classical and post-rock realms. Le Boeuf is also the founder of the jazz

orchestra, Assembly of Shadows, and the Chief Conductor of the Nordkraft Big Band. He has worked with a

range of collaborators, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Linda Oh, HAIM, JACK Quartet, Dayna

Stephens, and his twin Pascal, with whom he co-leads the experimental quintet Le Boeuf Brothers. Le Boeuf

is the director of jazz studies at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.

Adolfo Mendonça blends Brazilian music, jazz and elements of progressive rock in his music, a

mixture described by JAZZIZ Magazine like having the “breezy feel of bossa nova, but electrified by fusion

elements”. He has played in several American states, Brazil, France, Mexico and Chile, recently performing at

the Blue Note Sao Paulo (Brazil), NDSU Jazz Festival (ND), St. Petersburg Jazz Festival (FL), the James Theater

(IA) and Thelonious Lugar de Jazz (Chile). His list of music collaborations (performing/recording) include

Randy Brecker, Arthur Maia, Jose Valentino Ruiz, Mark Tonelli, Adam Meckler, O Som do Jazz, Tammy

Scheffer aamong others. Mendonça is currently the director of jazz studies at the University of Minnesota,

Morris.

The two are joined by drummer Mark Feinman and Colombian bassist Alejandro Arenas, both

coming from Florida for this performance.

The concert will have an opening act performed by the University of Minnesota Morris Jazz combo.
