About the Event
QUARTETO CARIOCA plays a range of songs from the contemporary Brazilian repertoire–samba jazz, Brazilian popular music, and other traditional genres with a contemporary influence. With vocals sung in Portuguese and a piano trio plus Brazilian percussion and flute/tenor sax/harmonica, we bring lesser-known songs and arrangements from great composers of Brazil such as João Donato, Edu Lobo, Carlos Lyra, Ivan Lins, and others.
QC is led by Daniel Williams, a native of St. Paul who grew up in a musical family and began studying piano at Walker West Music Academy. He has been playing and singing a range of Brazilian genres over the past two decades, with several trips to Brazil over those years.
Featuring:
Daniel Williams - piano, Fender Rhodes, and vocals
Andrew Gillespie - drums
Matt Senjem - bass
John Croarkin - flute, tenor saxophone, harmonica
Sebastiao Apolinario - percussion
